Abstract
Montréal compte aujourd’hui de nombreux terrains vacants, délaissés pour la plupart depuis des dizaines d’années. Conscients de ce phénomène et du potentiel de ces espaces dans la ville, des citoyens engagés ont commencé à se réapproprier ces terrains depuis le début des années 2000 notamment. Créatifs, les habitants aidés par des professionnels de l’aménagement, du paysage, de l’architecture ou du design, mettent tout en œuvre pour inventer des solutions alternatives au « tout bâti » et aux schémas préétablis de fabrication de la ville. Inventer des nouvelles manières de (co)gérer l’espace entre les différents acteurs qui interviennent au quotidien. Permettre à chacun de se réapproprier des espaces grandement sous exploités et parfois inhospitaliers pour en faire de véritables lieux de vie. Les avantages de cette réappropriation citoyenne sont aujourd’hui de plus en plus visibles : lutte contre les îlots de chaleur, lien social entre les habitants, sentiment de sécurité et baisse de la délinquance, espaces de biodiversité, bien être des habitants... Ce travail de recherche prend le pouls de la mobilisation citoyenne à Montréal à travers cinq terrains autrefois abandonnés, et aujourd’hui occupés par leurs habitants
