Abstract
Le pluralisme ethnoculturel contemporain exige de nouvelles réponses et de nouvelles politiques publiques. Le multiculturalisme est une philosophie sociale et une politique publique visant à baliser l’intégration des immigrants dans les sociétés développées. Mais il est aussi une réalité sociologique vécue porteuse de défis nouveaux pour la cohésion sociale. Ces politiques nouvelles conduisent‑elles à un certain enfermement dans les différences culturelles ? La sociologie de Raymond Boudon permet d’expliquer plusieurs difficultés rencontrées dans le processus d’intégration des immigrants tels que les conflits de valeur, le relativisme culturel, les effets de coordination non délibérée et l’agrégation des préférences qui font voir les limites des positions philosophiques de la tradition libérale anglo‑américaine et qui attirent l’attention sur les processus sociaux derrière la diversité des populations partageant le même espace public.
