Abstract

La correspondance de Louise Cruppi et de Romain Rolland, inédite et conservée dans le Fonds Romain Rolland à la BnF, comprend des centaines de lettres échangées par les deux auteurs entre 1905 et 1925. Cet article examine les représentations de Cruppi et de Rolland, entre public et privé, qui émergent de ces lettres, afin de comprendre ce que cette importante correspondance représentait pour eux, personnellement et professionnellement. Les différences dans les identités publiques et privées d’un homme et d’une femme de lettres au début du vingtième siècle retiennent en particulier notre attention, ainsi que le rôle de cette longue amitié dans les carrières intellectuelles de ces deux auteurs.
