Abstract
L’expérience carcérale élargie traduit l’emprise que les institutions carcérales exercent sur des personnes qui ne sont pourtant pas recluses, comme l’entourage des détenus, et qui vont, de manière singulière, éprouver la prison au-delà de ses murs. L’expérience carcérale élargie est une peine sociale qui se compose de quatre épreuves principales que ce texte propose d’analyser. C’est aussi une situation où les proches qui décident de maintenir le lien avec le détenu, essentiellement des femmes, réalisent un important travail de care à son égard. Après avoir présenté les différents soutiens qu’entendent réaliser les proches, nous verrons en quoi l’expérience carcérale élargie apparaît paradoxalement comme une situation sociale qui maintient l’assignation des femmes dans une posture traditionnelle et largement invisible, tout en leur offrant une opportunité pour prendre prise sur celui qui est détenu et sur les conditions de leur relation.
