La littérature s’accorde généralement pour désigner l’ectoparasite Varroa destructor comme la plus importante menace pour l’Abeille mellifère (Apis mellifera). Actuellement, la varroase est contrôlée principalement par l’utilisation de traitements acaricides qui présentent un risque de contamination des produits de la ruche et de l’environnement. Dans certaines colonies d’A. mellifera, on observe un comportement hygiénique qui réduit l’infestation des varroas, le VSH Varroa Sensitive Hygiene, et qui est associé à une baisse de la reproduction des varroas dans le couvain d’abeilles, le Supressed Mite Reproduction (SMR). L’identification de l’architecture génomique qui régule cette résistance aux varroas permettrait d’assister à l’accélération de son évolution dans l’ensemble des populations d’abeilles domestiques et à réduire les dommages causés par le parasite. Ce projet de maîtrise visait à mettre en lumière la relation entre le génome et ce phénotype quantitatif de résistance par une étude d’association pangénomique sur un échantillon de colonies d’A. mellifera du Québec provenant de cinq sites différents. Une technologie de génotypage par séquençage (GBS) a été utilisée pour identifier à l’échelle du génome entier des milliers de marqueurs à partir de polymorphismes nucléotidiques singletons (SNPs). Puis, l’association des marqueurs avec le phénotype SMR a été testée avec des modèles statistiques : le modèle linéaire mixte (MLM) et le modèle linéaire mixte multi-locus (MLMM) par des outils bio-informatiques. Ce projet se joint à d’autres tentatives de produire des outils de sélection plus efficaces pour les apiculteurs afin de lutter contre la varroase.
