De l’alcool et des histoires : perceptions diachroniques et multigénérationnelles entourant la consommation d’alcool et sa régulation chez les Anicinabek

Abstract
Cet article se penche sur différents intervenants, contemporains et passés, pour examiner leur positionnement par rapport à l’alcool consommé par les Anicinabek entre le début du XIXe siècle et aujourd’hui : les commerçants de fourrure, les chamanes, les prêtres catholiques, les membres de la Gendarmerie royale du Canada, les agents des Affaires indiennes et les leaders communautaires anicinabek. Nous explorons d’abord les comportements adoptés par chacun d’eux à l’aide de sources historiques, puis observons la perception contemporaine qu’ont différentes générations d’Anicinabek sur ces mêmes intervenants historiques à partir de sources orales. Ce faisant, nous montrons qu’à la fois chez les Anicinabek et les intervenants eurocanadiens, certaines personnes ont encouragé la consommation d’alcool, alors que d’autres ont plutôt inhibé sa consommation. Nous montrons que les perceptions contemporaines de ces différentes interventions passées peuvent varier en fonction de l’âge de l’informateur et de son vécu.
