Abstract
Depuis les 25 dernières années, des écrivaines venues d’Asie publient en français au Québec et au Canada des oeuvres témoignant d’un « imaginaire trans-local » (Lequin, 2008), qui construit de la convergence et du décentrement. Si la représentation de la nourriture et de la sensorialité – souvent associées à l’identité et aux affects des protagonistes – commence à être étudiée chez Ying Chen ou Kim Thúy, la production d’Aki Shimazaki, écrivaine québécoise d’origine japonaise, a encore été peu envisagée dans cette perspective, et ce, même si le fait alimentaire est mentionné de manière ponctuelle dans la plupart de ses récits. Cet article étudie l’inscription littéraire de la nourriture dans les ensembles romanesques shimazakiens « Le poids des secrets » (1999-2004), « Au coeur du Yamato » (2006-2013) et « L’ombre du chardon » (2014-2018), dans la mesure où celle-ci est informée par l’expérience transculturelle vécue par l’auteure. Il fait valoir que les descriptions culinaires et alimentaires sont régies chez Shimazaki par une esthétique de la distance, qu’elles témoignent d’une proximité avec la nature, qu’elles obéissent à certains codes culturels et qu’elles sont ancrées dans l’espace social japonais (domestique, semi-public et public).
