Du fait de leur inscription dans le processus d’asile et à cause des statuts que leur confèrent les lois nationales dans le domaine, les migrants requérants d’asile ne peuvent que très difficilement quitter la Suisse en cas de décès d’un proche resté au pays. Aussi, dans cet article, nous présentons les résultats d’une étude qualitative exploratoire portant sur les pratiques mises en oeuvre et sur les ressources mobilisées par ces migrants confrontés à un tel événement. Les résultats témoignent d’un deuil mis parfois en suspens qui ne peut se comprendre que par la conjugaison des contraintes structurelles associées à leur statut juridique, d’une part, et par les ressources qu’ils sont à même de mobiliser dans ce temps d’attente qu’est l’asile, d’autre part.
