Abstract
La dilatacion volvulo gastrico es una sobre distencion del estomago, debido a la presencia de gas, liquido o ingesta de alimento que junto con la incapacidad de eructar. La dilatacion provoca torsion del estomago sobre su eje mayor (generalmente 270-360’) en la direccion de las agujas del reloj (desplazamiento del piloro dorsalmente y hacia la izquierda) pudiendo estar presente una torsion esplenica. Este complejo produce una inestabilidad hemodinamica constituyendose en una emergencia medico-quirurgica. Las razas grandes y gigantes (Doberman, Labrador, Rottweiler, Danes y Mastin) son los mas afectados pero se puede presentar en razas como el Caniche, Pincher, Pekines y en gatos en menor proporcion1. El caracter ansioso, despues de situaciones de excitacion como lo seria el paseo en coche, alimentacion con una sola clase de comida y alimentacion en un recipiente alto vienen a predisponer su presentacion2.
