A trajetoria de vida de uma crianca abandonada demanda uma serie de reflexoes sobre a estruturacao de sistemas relacionais em sociedades altamente hierarquizadas. Ao envolver a casa de um grande proprietario de escravos, possibilita, ainda, ponderar sobre as negociacoes ocasionadas por um contexto no qual a mobilidade social era parte da norma vigente. Assim, este artigo traz algumas consideracoes sobre a reproducao social e o papel desempenhado pela familia no passado brasileiro.
