Abstract
Dans la Dynamica de potentia (1689-1690), Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz expose une théorie de la force d’abord fondée sur la considération des éléments formels du mouvement, abstraction faite de paramètres physiques tels que la gravité et l’élasticité des corps. D’où la démonstration dite a priori du principe de conservation de l’action formelle, qui rejoint celle, établie a posteriori , du théorème de conservation des forces vives. Il convient de montrer que cette apriorité ne saurait se réduire aux seules raisons géométriques, car Leibniz recourt à des principes architectoniques dans la détermination de concepts clés, tel celui d’action formelle. Si la formulation des lois de la dynamique implique des modèles mathématiques, ceux-ci sont tenus pour expressifs des réquisits « métaphysiques » des concepts théoriques. Il s’agit de conforter cette interprétation par l’analyse des arguments de la Dynamica et des justifications que Leibniz en a fournies dans ses échanges avec Johann Bernoulli, Burchard De Volder et Denis Papin.
