Abstract
Fin Donnelly will discuss his work at the federal level on two major environmental issues facing British Columbia: the impact of sea lice from fish farms on wild salmon and the threat of oil tanker transport off BC’s north coast. Since being elected a year ago, Donnelly, a long time wild salmon advocate, introduced six private Member’s bills, including the Wild Salmon Protection Act (C-518), which upon becoming law would require harmful west coast fish farm operations to move to safe closed containment systems. He also introduced bill C-502, which would ban the transport of oil by supertankers in the Dixon Entrance, Hecate Strait and Queen Charlotte Sound and protect BC’s magnificent coastline and coastal waters, fish species, mammals and coastal communities. Fin twice swam the 1,400 km length of the Fraser River to promote sustainable living and stewardship of our rivers.
