Abstract. In this paper we investigate the problem of how to prove the authorship of a textual document. We are interested in using natural language watermarking to solve the problem. First we define the general requirements, security and robustness, for such an authorship proof scheme (APS). Our study of existing natural language watermarking schemes shows that they can only provide very limited robustness. Then we propose a scheme, namely APS2, which improves robustness while keeping the same level of security. We also propose a lightweight scheme, denoted APS3, whose robustness is close to that of APS2, while APS3 is much simpler and easy to implement. 1
