Abstract
Dans un contexte contemporain internationalement marqué par des situations migratoires dramatiques et par le sentiment d’urgence de l’accueil qui les accompagne, on assiste depuis une trentaine d’années à un retour de la notion d’hospitalité dans le discours politique, civil et scientifique. Les sciences humaines et sociales se sont ainsi ressaisies de cet objet d’étude qui, après avoir suscité un intérêt certain au siècle des Lumières et dans le premier xix e siècle, avait pratiquement disparu des champs disciplinaires dans le courant du xx e siècle. Dans les travaux qui participent de ce renouvellement historiographique, et comme c’était déjà le cas à la période moderne, la référence à l’Antiquité méditerranéenne occupe une part très importante. À partir d’un corpus d’étude de cinq ouvrages français récents, relevant de la philosophie, de la sociologie et des sciences politiques, cet article s’intéresse aux modalités et aux sens de cette évocation de l’hospitalité des périodes anciennes pour penser les enjeux du temps présent.
