Abstract
Este artigo tem a finalidade de construir uma caracterização do processo de resistência dos pescadores artesanais em defesa do Lago do Maicá, localizado no município de Santarém, na região Oeste do Estado do Pará. A metodologia utilizada optou-se pelo método do estudo de caso. Procura-se responder se como os pescadores artesanais organizam-se como forma de resistência em defesa do Lago do Maicá?. Ao longo de sua história os pescadores vem se organizando em suas entidades, em Santarém a Colônia de Pescadores-20 representa –os na luta e defesa de seu território pesqueiro. Nesse processo construíram instrumentos normativos institucionais e comunitários que auxiliam no ordenamento e na gestão dos recursos existente. O Lago do Maicá possui 36 espécies de peixes, devido a grande abundância existente é responsável por abastecer 30% do comercio local. Diante da proposta de construção de um Porto Graneleiro nessa região para escoamento da produção de soja os pescadores organizaram-se para novamente defender seu território pesqueiro, para tanto construíram seu Protocolo de Consulta Previa, Livre e Informada, com base na convenção 169, da Organização Internacional do Trabalho. Percebe-se que os pescadores vivem em constante mobilização e luta para garantir a conservação do recurso pesqueiro dessa região.
