Por meio da apresentação de dados etnográficos, o artigo descreve e analisa formas do público estabelecer contato com obras de arte expostas em centros culturais e museus de arte. Decompondo a observação das obras nos procedimentos de aproximação, permanência e visão, discute premissas embutidas em modelo de estudo do público da arte ainda calcado na relação um indivíduo / uma obra, e propõe uma abordagem voltada para práticas e interações sociais.
