Les mouvements de populations générés par les enjeux politiques et environnementaux, ajoutés aux besoins de certains pays d’augmenter leur démographie et de combler leurs besoins de main-d’œuvre favorisent les flux migratoires qui rendent nos sociétés toujours plus hétérogènes. Cette « diversification de la diversité » (Vertovec, 2007) fait apparaître des problèmes politiques et administratifs auxquels les institutions doivent faire face. Cette recherche porte sur la place émergente des municipalités dans l’intégration des immigrants au Québec. Dans le cadre de cette recherche, j’ai participé au Réseau des municipalités en immigration et relations interculturelles (RÉMIRI) afin de mieux comprendre la question de la gouvernance de proximité en ce qui concerne l’intégration des minorités ethnoculturelles et racisées. Ce réseau de concertation est formé de fonctionnaires municipaux qui cherchent des outils afin de mieux répondre aux défis des nouvelles formes de diversité. L’objectif principal de ma recherche a été de comprendre les enjeux du virage municipal au Québec dans le domaine de l’immigration et des relations interculturelles et de documenter les nouvelles formes d’action municipale dans ce domaine.
