Abstract
La montée de la demande en minerais au cours des deux dernières décennies a favorisé la mise en fonction de mines dans le Nord du Québec et au Labrador. Ainsi, divers projets miniers ont vu le jour, lesquels s’ajoutent aux exploitations existantes et aux barrages d’Hydro-Québec. Les cycles miniers du passé avaient entraîné la création de petites villes. Toutefois, la pratique du navettage aérien a remplacé l’érection d’établissements permanents par la mise en place de complexes hôteliers. La vie dichotomique des travailleurs migrants produit divers impacts sociaux en plus d’instituer une nouvelle forme d’habiter. En outre, ce mode d’occupation est favorisé par les technologies de télécommunications. Cette recherche a pour but d’étudier les représentations des travailleurs engagés dans ce système, à l’aide d’un sondage et d’entretiens. Ces représentations du travail et de la vie au Nord se révèlent complexes, entremêlant des éléments attractifs et répulsifs.
