Abstract
Sous ses impératifs de concision, la nouvelle, genre de l’économie textuelle, s’accorde une certaine vocation à la performativité. Ses protagonistes, d’une psychologie souvent liminaire, sont ainsi relégués au second plan d’une narration éthérée qui s’enquiert d’aller à l’essentiel. La nouvelle propose ainsi un médium à la fois concis et pédagogique, potentiellement à même de retranscrire l’urgence de la crise environnementale, une des dernières causes communes qui semble poindre dans les productions littéraires québécoises de ces vingt-cinq dernières années. À travers des recueils de Louis Hamelin, Robert Lalonde et Lise Tremblay, le présent article s’interroge sur l’adéquation de la nouvelle pour témoigner des inquiétudes sur l’environnement.
