Monique Proulx est une auteure québécoise qui est entre autres connue pour son appréciation de la diversité montréalaise. Le quatrième de couverture de son roman Ce qu’il reste de moi (2015) mentionne que les Montréalais de toutes origines ont en commun « la ferveur, l’appel au dépassement ». Considérant que ce roman propose un dénominateur commun aux habitants de Montréal, il soulève la problématique des conditions du vivre-ensemble politique en contexte multiculturel ou interculturel. Ce mémoire vise à analyser les modalités du vivre-ensemble tel qu’il est mis en récit dans le roman de Monique Proulx. Ce travail s’appuie notamment sur les ouvrages de Gérard Bouchard L’interculturalisme, un point de vue québécois (2012) et Raison et déraison du mythe (2014) ainsi que sur la théorie sur l’identité et la reconnaissance de Paul Ricœur telle qu’il la décrit dans Parcours de la reconnaissance : Trois études (2004). En comparant la théorie à la fiction de Monique Proulx, ce mémoire tente de déterminer la façon dont est mis en récit le lien social dans Ce qu’il reste de moi. Il semble en effet qu’il soit possible de lire le roman comme une proposition sur le plan collectif, dans la mesure où le texte présente un citoyen faisant preuve d’une ouverture marquée face aux différences identitaires en liant l’époque coloniale de Montréal à des personnages de notre époque (autour des années 2000). Ce travail cherche également à souligner les limites d’une telle proposition sur le plan politique.
