Abstract
Tourism development in mountainous region aims to be sustainable. A major stake for sustainable tourism is to have a sustainable resource management. A conceptual framework on heritage resource is proposed to examine how to combine wildlife protection and tourism development. The paper deals with the changing nature of recreation and resource use in the Gaspesie national park in Québec, especially the changing point of view on caribou and the implications of these changes on wildlife and tourism management. We use the concept of heritage resource to understand how the park tries to save an endangered specie, the caribou, and develop at the same time a sustainable development.
