Le 11 novembre 1940 (jour de la Saint-Martin d’hiver), les censitaires du Québec ont versé pour la toute dernière fois des rentes à leurs seigneurs. Dès lors, aucune personne ni institution ne pourra prétendre au titre de « seigneur » dans la Province.
