Abstract
L e XIX e sicle est fascin par le corps humain, c'est verser dans le truisme que de le rappeler, mais ce rappel revt une importance cruciale pour notre tude. On connat trop bien, aprs les grands travaux de Jean-Louis Cabans et d'Alain Corbin 1 , la passion avec laquelle ce sicle, pris des sciences et dsireux de tout savoir, s'adonne scruter les surfaces observables du corps, mditer chacun de ses dtails. Il dveloppe donc tout un paradigme indiciaire dans le but de traduire ce e intolrable, pour lui, opacit du corps en un langage comprhensible, afin de dcrypter le refoul, l'invisible qui l'obsde et le hante, et de me re tous feux sur ce e nigme qui s'appelle l'homme 2 .
