Abstract
Basée sur le film chinois Adieu ma concubine, cette recherche propose une étude des stéréotypes perçus par les membres d’une culture ciblée au sein du champ de la communication interculturelle. Cette recherche aborde les stéréotypes quotidiens sur la Chine et les Chinois à partir d’entrevues individuelles avec des Chinois vivant à Montréal, lesquels ont été divisés en trois groupes selon la durée de leur séjour au Canada. Par leurs discours, les participants ont contesté les perspectives cognitivistes des stéréotypes, tout en confirmant les perspectives critiques. Partant d’une définition du « nous » et « eux », et considérant les dynamiques d’inclusion et d’exclusion qui leur sont afférentes, les participants ont manifesté une évolution graduelle dans leurs préoccupations avec l’accroissement de la durée de leur séjour au Canada, surtout lorsqu’il s’agissait des stéréotypes sur leur communauté. Cela fait ressortir les différents résultats de l’acculturation à la société d’accueil pour la diaspora chinoise. Ainsi, les perceptions des stéréotypes ne sont pas fixées une fois pour toute, mais sont relationnelles et affectées par le niveau d’acculturation au Canada.
