Abstract
Remote or noncontact vital signs detection through microwave and millimeter-wave radar techniques based on micro-Doppler effects can find wide-ranged applications in healthcare and biomedical sectors. Although a significant research progress has been achieved, there are still numerous challenging issues that should be addressed for practical implementations such as random body movement (RBM) and radar self-motion (RSM) artifacts which significantly degrade the detection accuracy. To cancel noises caused by RBM and/or RSM, innovative hardware technologies and advanced signal processing methods should be devised and developed. This paper reviews the recent progress of Doppler radar systems for noncontact vital signs detection and measurements featuring RBM and RSM noise cancellation.
