Abstract
À partir de travaux antérieurs consacrés au phénomène de la diffusion du patrimoine oral des Français d’Amérique, envisagé sous l’angle du transfert des traditions européennes du conte, de la chanson, des jurons et des rituels au sein des groupes minoritaires, cette communication veut proposer les éléments d’un modèle interprétatif qui saurait illustrer l’amplitude et rendre compte des dynamiques en présence. Le « principe du limaçon » pourrait apporter un éclairage original et significatif sur ces questions en exposant les rapports entre centre et périphérie, les possibles croisements ou l’origine plurielle des traditions ; il permettrait ainsi de cerner les facteurs du maintien ou de l’érosion des traditions en expliquant pourquoi les marges retiennent mieux et plus longtemps les messages transmis qui s’érodent au centre.
