Levées, duits et chevrettes imprègnent fortement les paysages fluviaux de la vallée de la Loire, par leur omniprésence et leur intégration aux structures des villes ligériennes, anciennes cités portuaires. Ces ouvrages opérationnels au temps de la navigation ligérienne et aujourd’hui révolus perturbent toujours la dynamique fluviale : influence des conditions d’écoulements, impacts sur la dynamique sédimentaire, végétalisation du lit entre levées. Ces objets fluviaux ont contribué au réajustement fluvial toujours en cours. L'approche géohistorique du XIXe au XXIe siècle montre que le paysage fluvial du lit entre levées s’est profondément modifié en réponse à l’arrêt brutal de la navigation et des modes d’entretien des chenaux à la fin du XIXe siècle. Pour illustrer l’impact de ces friches hydrauliques sur le paysage fluvial, nous nous intéressons aux digues submersibles de deux sites de la Loire moyenne : La Charité-sur-Loire et sa chevrette, Orléans et ses duits. Des conflits naissent et des enjeux apparaissent à l’issue de cette trajectoire paysagère : entretenir et restaurer le lit fluvial, maintenir ou supprimer des aménagements fluviaux, valoriser le patrimoine de navigation.
