Abstract
Grâce à l’étude de la pièce « Un salon français vers 1750–1760 » (Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto), cet article analyse les enjeux méthodologiques et épistémologiques associés au processus de (re) construction, d’interprétation et de médiation des récits historiques au moyen de la period room. Il examine comment des effets de récit y prennent forme et quels sont les effets de l’environnement muséal pour la valeur de ces derniers en tant qu’outil de construction et de transmission de connaissances. Cette étude contribue à élucider l’ambiguïté de la relation entre histoire et fiction dans le contexte de la construction des savoirs et invite à reconnaître les possibilités heuristiques de leur rencontre afin d’envisager le rôle actuel que peut jouer la period room.
