Les objectifs officiels, les manuels et les habitudes soumettent les enseignants et les eleves a des nonmes en matiere d'ex. pression orale qui apparaissent quelquefois decourageantes. 11 est possible, par la pratique de la reflexion metacommunicative, et en faisant du langage oral un objet d'apprentissage, de faire evoluer les pratiques lanqaqieres des eleves telles qu'elles existent, et d'apprendre a ceux-ci a s'adapter aux exigences des differentes situations sociales.
