Abstract
Sur la base d’une enquête approfondie réalisée dans les alumineries du Québec, l’auteur présente trois portraits d’ouvriers d’usines différentes. Il décrit les usines, les technologies qui y sont mises en oeuvre, puis les travailleurs : travail, perceptions, préoccupations et revendications. Ces portraits révèlent que l’évolution du travail ouvrier ne suit pas une trajectoire unique, même dans un contexte technologique similaire, voire identique. En effet, les choix de gestion et d’organisation effectués par chaque entreprise conduisent à des formes diverses de travail ouvrier et d’organisation du travail ouvrier.
