The Spanish premier football league, La Liga, is considered by many as the best and most exciting league in the world. With Spanish clubs dominating the most competitive tournament in European football, the Champions League, with 18 wins since its inception in 1955, the La Liga draws the attention of hundreds of millions of fans from around the globe. In this article, we use data mining techniques on historical data to predict results, as well as discover what causes some teams to be more successful than others. The goal is to provide predictions with higher certainty than the existing statistical models, and to discover interesting and useful patterns in European Leagues.
