Ce texte présente l’expérience de l’Université coopérative internationale (UCI), un réseau francophone de chercheurs et d’acteurs engagés dans les sciences sociales des religions, le développement régional, l’économie sociale et l’éducation permanente. En un peu plus d’une décennie (de la fin des années 1970 au début des années 1990), de nombreux partenariats, projets de coopération, rapports et publications scientifiques ont émané de ce réseau international. Son but était de fédérer plusieurs groupes de recherche nés à l’initiative des anciens étudiants du Collège coopératif de Paris. Active en Europe, en Afrique, en Amérique latine et au Canada, l’UCI a suscité de multiples collaborations Nord-Sud, Sud-Sud et Nord-Nord, dont les retombées sont encore visibles aujourd’hui, et contribué à conférer une légitimité à bon nombre de chercheurs, notamment sur le continent américain.
