This panel will discuss the history of the Engineering Communication Program at the University of Toronto. Founded in 1995, this unit takes an integrated approach to communication support across the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering, working with associate departments to design discipline-specific instruction. The Program's evolution reflects larger trends in engineering communication pedagogy, while providing a model for similar programs. We will reflect on lessons learned in our collaborations with engineering faculty, negotiations with university administration, and development of original Humanities curricula. We hope to provide helpful insights as other engineering communication programs expand and evolve in similar ways.
