Le débat qui a opposé Jeanne Lapointe à M gr Félix-Antoine Savard et à Pierre Gélinas dans les pages de Cité libre en 1954 et en 1955 est considéré comme un moment phare dans l’émergence de la littérature comme discipline du savoir universitaire. Or, nous croyons qu’il permet aussi de saisir comment et contre quoi s’est érigée la figure de l’intellectuelle chez Lapointe. L’hypothèse au coeur de notre article est donc que se dessinent déjà, dans ce premier débat médiatisé par Cité libre , les contours d’une posture intellectuelle singulière que Lapointe continuera de développer par la suite. Plus précisément, nous souhaitons proposer une définition de cette posture, que nous résumons par les termes de retournement dialogique . Nous entendons par là une stratégie qui vise moins à convaincre l’adversaire qu’à retourner contre le discours monologique de celui-ci ses propres arguments, à renverser contre lui la lecture du monde qu’il impose (et les valeurs qu’elle transporte) dans le but d’ébranler l’hégémonie de son discours (et de sa pensée).
