Abstract
Le jeune enfant est un être social : il doit être étudié comme un « tout » (conatif, cognitif et social) intégré dans ses milieux de vie. Cette recherche, en se fondant sur une approche centrée sur la personne, vise à comprendre comment les caractéristiques sociales, conatives, cognitives, motrices et environnementales d’un jeune enfant s’intègrent pour former un « tout ». Les objectifs sont 1) d’établir des profils sociaux (comportementaux) de 61 enfants de deux ans, et 2) de montrer qu’au sein d’un même profil les enfants présentent des similitudes psychologiques (conatives, cognitives, motrices) et environnementales (familiales et extra-familiales). Les comportements sociaux ont été observés écologiquement. Le tempérament a été évalué par la mère à l’aide de questionnaires. La compréhension des émotions, le langage et la motricité globale ont été évalués par un expérimentateur à l’aide d’échelles. Les résultats mettent en évidence cinq profils sociaux d’enfants qui se distinguent socialement, psychologiquement et environnementalement. Si l’on tient compte de la notion de continuité/discontinuité, certains de ces profils semblent être précurseurs de difficultés ultérieures.
