Abstract
The present study aimed to make an analysis of the Brazilian aeronautical sector both of its historical evolution as well as the international competitiveness of the country in the production of airplanes. The analysis of competitiveness was carried out through the calculation of four indicators, that is revealed comparative advantage (IVCR), coverage rate (TC), relative position indicator (POS) and the performance index (DES). We also calculated the indicators for the main competitors of the country, which are the United States, France and Canada, and compared them with the Brazilian indicators. The results showed that Brazil has comparative advantages in production of airplanes, mainly in aircraft categories of medium and large size, as well as demonstrated international competitiveness in the sector, having in this sector one of the strong points in its economy with regard to products of higher added value.
