Abstract
This article focuses on New England Franco-Americans, a community almost absent from the spectrum of American ethnic groups. Kerouac’s writings are used in order to question this invisibility and better understand the complexity of this community, its evolution, values, strength and weaknesses, its connexions with its native land, along with its present absence in the literary fields. His Duluoz Legend, and more particularly his Lowell novels, are fraught with elements of his French Canadian culture, which casts a significant light on a race with an invisible culture and on its passage from visibility to invisibility.
