Abstract
À l’aide de la fiction, cet article analyse la façon dont le métro agit comme un révélateur de l’identité de ses usagers. En nous appuyant sur le recueil de nouvelles Titre de transport (2016) d’Alice Michaud-Lapointe, nous montrons de quelle manière le métro montréalais confronte le voyageur avec les autres, mais également avec lui-même. Plus encore, cette étude met en valeur et répertorie différents imaginaires et pratiques signifiantes liés à ce mode de transport. L’analyse de Titre de transport fait du métro de Montréal une forme de palimpseste où est continuellement réinscrit un rapport nouveau au métro en fonction de la manière dont en font usage les personnages, mais également en fonction d’un contexte spécifique. Cette incursion dans le domaine littéraire met en évidence le rôle structurant de la mobilité dans la construction de l’identité et la place de l’imaginaire qui nourrit et oriente les comportements des sujets dans le métro.
