Abstract
Cet article explore les fondements du sentiment de solitude exprimé par la majorité des parents en congé parental. L’analyse des discours des parents, recueillis dans le cadre d’entretiens semi-directifs, met en évidence l’intériorisation d’un modèle de « disponibilité permanente » à l’enfant pendant le congé, qui induit l’isolement et le sentiment de solitude du parent en congé. Ce modèle limite la possibilité de ce dernier de prendre du temps pour lui ou de maintenir ses relations sociales à l’extérieur du foyer. Intériorisée par les mères davantage que par les pères, l’exigence de se dévouer aux enfants et au foyer conduit à ce que le rôle statutaire de parent en congé prenne le pas sur l’identité personnelle de l’individu, renforçant le sentiment de solitude. La reprise de l’activité professionnelle est alors attendue comme un moyen de ne plus être qu’un parent.
