Abstract

Assessment is a crucial component of learning because it helps students engage themselves in the learning process. Furthermore, assessments motivate students to become more familiar with the topic. The proposed preliminary study investigates different assessment techniques of programming courses in higher education. The techniques we used in this study include multiple choice and short answer questions. The study shows that students were doing well in multiple-choice questions and had some difficulties in short answer questions in regards to programming language courses such as CPP and Object Oriented Programming using Java.
