Abstract
Des l’epoque duNDiscours sur l’origine de l’inegalite, Jean-Jacques Rousseau accorde une place importante a ce qu’il juge etre le regime naturel de l’espece humaine, en l’occurrence le frugivorisme. Cet interet, a peine releve par la critique, s’explique aisement par la necessite que percoit Rousseau de chercher dans le corps meme des hommes des preuves de leur bonte naturelle. Pour que l’homme soit bon naturellement, il faut en effet qu’il ait des tendances vegetariennes et un systeme digestif comparable a celui des paisibles animaux frugivores. Sans cela, nous serions des carnivores, nous serions necessairement mechants et sourds a la souffrance des etres sensibles. Ce type de reflexions a des echos de plus en plus nombreux dans les debats contemporains sur notre rapport aux animaux.
