Birlesmis Milletler evrensel niteligi ile uluslararasi toplumlarin ortak iradesini en genis sekilde ortaya koyabilmek amaci ile 24 Ekim 1945 yilinda kurulmustur. Birlesmis Milletlerin alt organizasyonlarindan biri olan Gida ve Tarim Organizasyonu ise 16 Ekim 1945 tarihinde 42 ulkenin temsilcileri tarafindan Kanada’nin Quebec sehrinde kurulmus olup; dunyadaki ulkelerin kalkinma, cevre, gida, saglik, hayvan sagligi ve dogal kaynaklar gibi sorunlarina cozum uretebilmek amacini tasimaktadir. Bu amacla tum dunyada ve Turkiye’de veteriner hekimlik alaninda cesitli projelere destek olmus ve projeler basari ile sonuclanmistir. Turkiye ve Gida ve Tarim Organizasyonu isbirligi ile ilk 40 yillik sure icinde 33.167.826 dolar butceli 76 proje uygulanmistir. Bu projelerin veteriner hekimlik ve hayvancilik alaninda incelendiginde ise aricilik, ipekbocekciligi, balikcilik ve hayvancilik yan urunleri de olmak uzere toplam 21 proje gerceklestigi gorulmektedir. Bu arastirmada, Birlesmis Milletler ve FAO’nun dunyada ve Turkiye’deki kurulus calismalarini ve izleyen donemdeki ilk 40 yillik surec icinde veteriner hekimlik acisindan Turkiye’deki tarihsel gelisiminin degerlendirilmesi amaclanmistir
