Recognized as the longest international border in the world, the Canada-United States border stretches 8,891 km, dividing the two nations.One begins to question the existence of this boundary line as merely an imaginary construct; simply drawn on a map defining where one nation ends and the other begins.However, while the fictitious political border constitutes a real divide, the land is continuous, and the river continues to flow through the cultures of both nations.Established through a treaty, the mandate of the International Boundary was finalized in 1908 and it defines the border condition as marked today.The 49th parallel north forms an almost straight line between the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba of Canada and the US states of Washington, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota
