L’influence de Voltaire au Québec a été beaucoup étudiée depuis l’ouvrage de Marcel Trudel en 1945 ; voir aussi mes contributions aux Cahiers Voltaire depuis une quinzaine d’années. En revanche, Jean-Jacques Rousseau a été moins abordé. À l’exception d’un article de Monique Moser-Verrey (1987), personne ne s’est penché sur sa postérité québécoise. Elle est pourtant importante, en littérature et dans les médias, notamment au moment du « Printemps érable » (2012) et chez plusieurs auteurs réfléchissant à l’expression de soi en littérature (Catherine Mavrikakis, Jean-Philippe Martel, Nicolas Lévesque, René Bolduc, Thomas O. St-Pierre). Il s’agira de faire voir une présence constante et profonde, mais diffuse.
