Abstract
Le rôle du tirage au sort dans la démocratie athénienne des v e et iv e siècles avant notre ère retient toujours l’attention des spécialistes de science poltique. Mais l’usage du sort pour le choix des responsables politiques avait aussi un arrière-plan religieux dans la Grèce archaïque et classique. Cette étude retrace deux processus de sécularisation à la fois similaires et différents, mais liés entre eux par la tradition occidentale des études classiques, dans le polythéisme de la Grèce ancienne et dans le monothéisme de l’Europe moderne.
