Les documents audiovisuels numériques d’archives (DANA) sont de plus en plus une composante du numérique et leur croissance est exponentielle. Cependant, il existe un écart à combler entre les usages et pratiques actuels des DANA et les services offerts en ligne par les institutions patrimoniales. Cet écart entre les usages actuels et les services découle notamment d’une lacune dans la définition des propriétés et caractéristiques des DANA. Or, la prise en compte de celles-ci est essentielle pour mettre en place des modalités d’organisation et de diffusion des DANA qui facilitent leur utilisation. Dans un premier temps, l’analyse des aspects du document, de l’audiovisuel, des archives et du numérique met en lumière ces propriétés et caractéristiques; ce qui amène à considérer dans un deuxième temps plusieurs pistes de solutions concrètes : du point de vue des contenus, de la transmission et de l’exploitation archivistique, de l’accès numérique, des rapports entre usagers et institutions et enfin des développements technologiques futurs afin d’améliorer l’adéquation entre, d’une part, les DANA et leurs usagers et, de l’autre part, les moyens et modalités mis en place par les institutions sur le Web.
