Abstract
Genevieve Damas voulait montrer, a travers un roman, combien la crise des migrants nous interroge. Elle est allee a Lampedusa, et a la frontiere du Canada, ou tous les jours des habitants tentent de traverser le Rainbow Bridge qui les conduira aux Etats-Unis. Apres etre descendue sur le terrain, elle a ecrit ce texte : un monologue de trois personnes qui parlent a tour de role. Il y a d’abord Jean Iritimbi, Centrafricain sans papiers, venu au Canada avec l’espoir d’y faire venir un jour sa famille. Il s’eprend de Patricia. Et puis il y a l’enfant, Vanessa, la fille de Jean, muree dans le silence, depuis qu’elle a ete sauvee d’un naufrage en Mediterranee. « Prends la planche, tu es la plus petite », lui avait dit sa maman. Patricia recueille l’enfant rescapee « pour lui donner une vie qui vaille le prix de sa traversee », le supplie Jean. Elle recoit en pleine figure la souffrance de l’adolescente. C’est un texte court, fort, dans lequel les trois personnages parlent d’une voix juste.
