Abstract
Le 22 novembre 1981, à Recife, Brésil, une messe a été célébrée dans le but de conduire l’Église catholique brésilienne à s’intéresser à la question des noirs. L’encadrement rituel de la « Missa dos Quilombos » est resté celui d’une messe catholique, mais son déroulement a suivi une dynamique toute particulière, laquelle a suscité de multiples reprises de cette messe devenue événement, marchandise, spectacle, et aussi ressource pédagogique. Ainsi, la « Missa dos Quilombos » doit se comprendre du point de vue de la fragmentation rituelle en lien avec la vitesse du temps post-moderne, qui, selon Victor Turner, est à l’origine des phénomènes « liminoïdes ». Dans cette foulée, on se concentre ici sur les différents aspects d’une telle fragmentation rituelle que la « Missa dos Quilombos » permet d’illustrer. On sera ainsi en mesure de voir non seulement des essais de rencontre entre le rite, l’art et l’éthique, mais aussi leur éloignement du berceau religieux.
