Il y a actuellement une « escalade invisible » dans l’Atlantique du Nord où plusieurs milliers de missiles nucléaires (air et mer) sont déployés à des fins de contrôle et de défense des lignes de communication maritimes. Lieu par excellence de la confrontation Est-Ouest, la sécurité des populations environnantes s’en trouve menacée. Des groupes pacifistes de l’Écosse, de l’Islande et d’ailleurs ont décidé de mettre sur pied le « Réseau de l’Atlantique du Nord ». Ce réseau, avant tout lieu d’échange d’informations, se veut aussi « Alliance alternative » au sens où il envisage une éventuelle transformation de l’actuelle politique de confrontation des deux grands.
