Abstract
En avril 1589, la ville d’Alcalá de Henares et Philippe II d’Espagne fêtèrent la canonisation du frère franciscain Diego après vingt-sept ans d’une procédure qui avait commencé avec la guérison supposée miraculeuse de l’infant don Carlos en mai 1562. À travers le récit des célébrations, que livra le frère Gabriel de Mata la même année, les choix iconographiques ainsi que les sonnets et les chants qui ponctuèrent le parcours de la procession rendirent hommage non seulement au saint mais aussi au roi et à leur oeuvre commune ainsi célébrée. Cet article propose d’en faire une lecture politique.
